About paternity suit in Greece

A paternity suit is a court case to establish who a child's father is. Raising a child brings moral and growing financial duties, so disputes can arise about whether a man is really the father, especially after a short relationship. The case can be brought by the possible father, by the mother, or by the child.

How it works

  • A claim is filed at the local first-level court, usually where the other party lives. The other party may be the mother or the possible father.
  • At the same time you can ask for related things, such as child support or a paternity (DNA) test.
  • Strong evidence of the relationship is needed, such as letters, receipts, emails, photos, messages and witnesses. A paternity test can be strong evidence.
  • The judge weighs the evidence and decides whether the claim goes ahead.
  • The judge cannot force anyone to take a paternity test, but refusing one can count against the person who refuses.

What the service covers

  • a first talk with a specialist lawyer and an explanation of your options
  • negotiating with the other parent
  • arranging tests and expert analysis
