Income Tax Declaration in Spain

This service helps foreigners who live in Spain file their yearly personal income tax return. It is most useful for people with income from other countries, which makes the tax more complicated.

Who it is for

Unlike in many other countries, most residents and all property owners in Spain must file a tax return. It is especially helpful for people with several kinds of income, such as wages, pensions, rent or profits from selling things, and for those who want to use tax treaties. These are agreements between countries so the same income is not taxed twice.

Who has to file

You are treated as living in Spain for tax if you spend more than 183 days a year there, or if your main business or income is based there. You generally have to file if, for example:

• your income from work or pensions is over €22,000 a year;
• your rental income is over €1,000 a year;
• your income from interest, dividends or gains is over €1,600.

People with a single income below €22,000 are exempt. Anyone who wants to claim relief under a tax treaty must file in any case.
