This service is for people who are owed money. It might be a business whose customer has not paid for goods or services, or a person who lent money that was never paid back.
Often a formal letter from a lawyer asking for payment is enough. If not, there are other ways to press for the money, in many countries.
What the service aims to do
- Get unpaid money back faster.
- Recover as much as possible and, where it can be done, keep a good working relationship with the customer.
- Use either steps outside court or a court case.
- Keep the case private and keep you updated.
How it works
Talking with the person who owes you. With your permission, a lawyer negotiates for you. The goal is to get the full amount, but you may decide that part of it, or the full amount paid over time, is acceptable.
Checking their finances first. Going to court is a last step. Before that, it is worth finding out whether the person or company has money or property. Useful sources include the company register, which shows details such as company assets and yearly accounts, and the property register, which shows what people own. Getting such a report before going to court is strongly advised.
Going to court. If the other steps fail and the report suggests it is worthwhile, the case can be taken to court.
