5A Non-Dom Tax Registration Service in Greece

Greece has a special tax scheme, often called the ‘5A’ or ‘non-dom’ scheme, for wealthy people and retirees who move there. Instead of paying normal Greek tax on money earned abroad, the person pays one fixed amount each year.

Who it is for

People with a lot of income from outside Greece, such as retirees, investors and business owners. They want to become Greek tax residents (people who pay their taxes in Greece because they live there) and keep their tax bill simple and predictable.

The main conditions

• The person has not been a Greek tax resident for 7 of the 8 years before applying.
• They invest at least €500,000 in Greece within 3 years. This can be done by them, by a family member, or through a company they mostly own.
• They have a main home in Greece, owned or rented.

The investment can be, for example, property, shares in Greek companies that are not on the stock market, Greek government bonds (a loan to the state) lasting at least 3 years, or Greek investment funds.

What the scheme offers

• A fixed tax of €100,000 a year on all income from abroad.
• No need to report foreign income in Greece.
• No Greek tax on inheriting or receiving as a gift property located abroad.
• Family members can be added for €20,000 each; dependent children are free.
• It can last up to 15 years, with no minimum number of days to spend in Greece.

What the service involves

• Checking whether the person fits the scheme.
• Help finding suitable investments.
• Getting a Greek tax number (called AFM) and setting up residence.
• Preparing the papers and dealing with the tax office.
• Sending the application by 31 March of the chosen tax year.
• Arranging a bank certificate that proves the money was moved to a Greek bank.
• Ongoing help with the yearly payment and with renewing residence permits.
